Listening Intelligently #7 | Being a bit more Springsteen

A short muse on the intersection of business and rock n roll…

Could the world of business benefit from being a bit more Springsteen?

Watching Disney’s pre-release screening of Road Diary in London made me think it could, at least as far as caring for customers and keeping a world class team together are concerned.

An overriding takeaway was the wholly authentic and dignified sense of duty Bruce clearly feels to his audience.

The one thing you always take for granted at a Springsteen show is that he cares, that he is fully committed to  the moment and the performance, always ready to empty the tank and never hold anything back

And the E Street Band’s longevity and continuity, staying together for over 50 years (admittedly with a decent break in the 1990s) is testimony to the mutual love and respect that’s been fostered between the leader and his team, fuelling a sense of gratitude at still working together and the recognition that it doesn’t get any better than this collection of musicians.

And in any case what’s not to like about a band that refuses to go quietly and includes Steve Van Zandt’s dress sense?
